Career Highlights: 1996 Olympic Trials champion; 26th at 1996 Olympic Games; 1998 USA champion; 1994 Olympic Festival champion.
With humble beginnings, Carroll developed to become the defending Olympic Trials champion. Just a 30-foot shot putter and 100-foot discus thrower in high school. Her father, a San Francisco firefighter, and a friend of his at the station named Mike Lewis (a sometime coach) encouraged Carroll to enroll at San Mateo CC and try the javelinsteady persistence over the years helped her go from mediocre to national champion. She made the 1995 World Championships team because she had made the qualifying standard and the other would-be entrants hadn't has earned masters in psychology.
1999: 5th at USA Champs (170-0)ranked #5 in U.S. by T&FNbest of 171-5.
1998: Won USA Champs (185-7) and adidas Oregon Track Classic (171-5)5th in Goodwill Games (179-4)ranked #1 in U.S. by T&FNbest of 198-7.
1997: 3rd in USA Champs (185-3)23rd in qualifying at World Champs (182-6)ranked #3 in U.S. by T&FNbest of 197-7.
