Rating: Silver based on 7 reviews
Distance: 6.05 miles / 9.73 km
Location: Start: Theodore Roosevelt Area Trailhead
Theodore Roosevelt Area - Jacksonville, FL, US
Attributes: loop, mostly hills, rough trail
Description: This trail run starts at the Roosevelt Area trail head (off of Mt Pleasant Rd.) and winds through three parks(Roosevelt Area, Spanish Pond, & Fort Caroline) and has the steepest hills, roughest trails and best natural views in Jax. You will not be able to follow it as mapped, you'll probably get lost (temporarily), but you'll have a great time if you enjoy this kind of running. Definitely a run for the cooler months in FL.

Great run, and stop in the visitors center. The history of the area is impressive.

This course is definitely not for speed. You can pick the pace in several areas but unless you're constantly watching for roots you run the risk of tripping and injuries. I've lived and run in the area for 20 years and have tripped twice, once just scraping myself up and the other time spraining my ankle. This area is excellent however, for endurance, aesthetics, or just a change of scenery. Contrary to the lead description, I find this area a great option for the summer months due to it being mostly in the shade. Look out however, for occasional snakes, especially in areas that dip low in the vicinity of Spanish pond. The off-road (about a quarter mile) trailhead at Mt. Pleasant road is open until sunset. This is your best option if you're not sure you'll be back by 5 pm. This lot has had break-ins however, so be prepared to lock your valuables in your trunk. The mid-course parking lots off Fort Caroline road, at the Fort and Spanish pond, both close promptly by park rangers at 5 PM but you can park your car along the road there if you don't plan to finish by 5.

Ran here for the first time today. Great area. Be prepared for a workout. Lots of elevation changes and changes of direction. Awesome run.
