This is a great trail with lots of sand to cushion your stride but not enough to cause a sprained ankle. I live just 1/2 a mile from it and only discovered it recently. I am glad I did. There isn't a lot of people there either so its quite serene if you want to stop and think for a while. I am not giving it a gold simply because there aren't any inclines so its not challenging. However, you'd be hard pressed to find a trail in Jax (or Florida) with hills. I love this trail.

Trailhead map lists the full loop at 6.1mi, but GPS has it closer to 5.5. Mildly sandy, and some mud that is easily avoidable. Definately nice change of pace from Jax street running.

I ran on two consecutive Sundays in October, 2008. One was 13 miles and the other 7. The trail is almost all double-track with a mix of shading from full to partial to none. The surface is a nice relief from the pounding one's joints take on a sidewalk.
Watch out for sand spurs, especially if you bring a dog. The west end of the yellow trail was very bad in October; other areas weren't bad at all. It was bad enough getting whacked in the ankles and having to pick spurs out of my shoes (even the soles) but we had to stop every tenth of a mile for about a mile to pick out sandspurs from my dog's paws.
There was some patchy sand, mud, and water but only one spot that wasn't easily avoidable. On the south side near the white/yellow intersection there was a bad patch of standing water. It is between the yellow and white connector trails, so it can be avoided by using the connector trails
I don't suggest using a running stroller here due to the sand, grass, and uneven terrain. Bikes would be nice.
There's an out/back trail from the NW corner of the yellow trail. This leads further out towards the creek. It is not well maintained with many long weeds and grasses.
In general this was a trail I'd go back to, but it is a bummer the sand spurs are so bad.
