Records highlight 2009 USA Masters Throws Championships American records highlighted competition over the weekend at the 2009 USA Masters Throws Championships held at the Concordia Throws Center in Portland, Ore. 94-year-old Betty Jarvis won the W90 superweight in American record fashion, heaving the superweight 3.65 meters/11 feet 11 inches. On the men's side, David Bickel set the American record in the M40 superweight with a throw of 9.63m/31-7 and Harvey Lewellen broke the M80 American record with his effort of 10.51m/34-5. In the weight pentathlon, Myrle Mensey shattered the previous W60 American record of 4,039 points with her winning total of 4,462 points and Gloria Krug set the W75 American record with her final score of 3,745 points. Harvey Lewellen, who won every competition he entered over the weekend, obliterated the m80 American record of 4,159 in the throws pentathlon, amassing 5,234 points. Lewellen also won the ultraweight pentathlon with 5,592 points. Mark Landa broke his own M35 American record, set last year with 3,852 points, by winning with 3,881 points.
