Oliver defeats Robles in Lausanne

Led by David Oliver in the men's 110m hurdles, Americans won a pair of events and placed in several more Tuesday at the prestigious Athletissima 2008 in Lausanne, Switzerland. The meet is part of the IAAF's Super Grand Prix series.

In men's competition, Olympic bronze medalist Oliver defeated gold medalist and world record holder Dayron Robles of Cuba in the 110m hurdles, running 13.02 to Robles' 13.17.

Olympic 400m gold medalist Lashawn Merritt won the 400 in 43.98, with 400m hurdles gold medalist Angelo Taylor second in 44.38.

Olympic bronze medalist Walter Dix was second in the men's 100, running 9.92 to Asafa Powell's 9.72. Derek Miles was second in the men's pole vault (5.70m/18-8.25), and Wallace Spearmon was third in the 200 (20.54).

Leading women's finishers were Olympic Trials champion Shannon Rowbury taking second in the 1,500 (4:01.97) behind 2007 world champion Maryam Yusuf Jamal (3:59.84); gold medalist Dawn Harper placing second in the 100 hurdles (12.63); Marshevet Hooker taking third in the 100 (11.09); and Grace Upshaw finishing third in the long jump 6.63m/21-9).
