Harlan leads at USA Indoor Combined Events Championships |
INDIANAPOLIS - 2005 USA Indoor heptathlon champion Ryan Harlan leads the men's heptathlon after the first day of competition at the 2006 USA Indoor Combined Events Championships at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Harlan totaled 3,406 points Saturday to grab the lead against ten other competitors, including 2004 Olympian and two-time USA Indoor Heptathlon champion Paul Terek, who sits in fourth place with 3,199 points. Ryan Olkowski is in second place with 3,324 points and Chris Boyles is in third place with 3,224 points. Olkowski won two of the four events contested on Saturday. He won the 60 meter dash in 6.98 seconds, before capturing the long jump with a best effort of 7.36 meters/24 feet 01.75 inches. Boyles won the High Jump with a clearance of 2.08m/6-09.75, while Harlan won the shot put with a heave of 16.36m/53-08.25. The women's pentathlon featuring five of the top ten performers of 2005, will begin at Noon on Sunday, March 5, with the men's heptathlon resuming at the Eddie Smith Field House at 2:00 p.m. For more information on the 2006 USA Combined Events Championships, including the complete results, visit www.usatf.org. |
