NEW YORK, N.Y. - An exciting weekend of racing began with the USA Master's 8 km Championships on Saturday at the USA Cross Country Championships presented by Gleukos held at Van Cortlandt Park.

The Masters men's 8 km winner Patrick Fuller (Eugene, Ore.)pulled away from Sean Wade (Houston, Texas) for a 26-second victory. "I didn't go all out," said Fuller. "I broke away on the third lap, and I was able to relax on the last lap. The course is actually fast and firm - that was good."

Sarah Krakoff (Boulder, Colo.), won the women's masters 8 km championship in a time of 31:27, defeating Kathryn Martin (Northport, N.Y.) by a 8-second margin. "I was in the lead pack for most of the race," said Krakoff. "I wasn't leading, but I took off with a lap to go. I thought I could wait until 400 meters to go, but I figured I better not. It was cold and windy, and the ground was choppy, but that's cross country."

The USA Cross Country Championships presented by Gleukos will be televised February 20 (late evening February 19) at 12:00 a.m. EST on ESPN 2.
