Team USA Morning Session Athlete Quotes - August 7, 2005

Aretha Hill Thurmond, Women's discus

Honestly, this was a sorry performance. I don't want to know how far I threw, because it's not really important. The goal was to make it to the finals and I didn't.

There was nothing wrong with the conditions. It was a situation where you take the blame. I didn't do what I was supposed to do today. I didn't get it done...there's no excuses. I don't make excuses. If there was one, I wouldn't make it.

Dee Dee Trotter, Women's 400 meters

It feels pretty good. It was a little windy. I didn't think it was going to be that windy on the homestretch. But other than that, I felt that I had a very good, calm and controlled race.I executed pretty well.Sanya Richards, Women's 400 MetersI felt really good. Coach Hart wanted me to get the first 200 executed almost exactly the pace. That's what I tried to do. I was just happy that I was able to run the first 200 well. It felt good. I've got the cobwebs out now so I'm looking forward to tomorrow.Monique Hennagan, Women's 400 Meters

It was a little tough, I haven't raced in a while. I had to get the kinks out. It was good. I definitely felt the wind. It was more of a swirling wind, so it wasn't really bad anywhere. It's a little cool, but it's cool in everybody's lane.I was nervous competing in an individual meet so big, so I was definitely a little nervous. I just try to focus on the track, not look around.Seilala Sua, Women's Discus

I had really good warmups, but as my competition started I guess I kind of froze. I was stopping and everything wasn't flowing. My season's done. I'll take a little break and start training. I'm coaching UCLA's women's team next year that'll help me get motivated, get back in the game. I had a pretty good season, I did some really good things.Becky Breisch, Women's Discus

I didn't get any good ones. It's a pretty, much disappointing day all around. It was my first time out of the U.S., but maybe another meet would have been different.Hopefully getting some experience in this will help me down the road.

Muna Lee, Women's 100 meters

I had a bad start, I'm kind of known for that. I was thinking about the race more than reacting.Lauryn Williams, Women's 100 meters

I'm not so cold. I thought it was colder. I'm put on all this (the Nike Swift Suit), but maybe not for the final. I stumbled a little bit out of the blocks, I almost fell on my face. The race plan was to run 60 meters then shut it down. I feel fine, I'm ready. I'm very fit. I have to get myself together and get ready to rumble.Lisa Barber, Women's 100 metersI just wanted to get through the first round injury free and victorious. It went smooth, I got the jitters out. I'm feeling great.

Tracy O'Hara, Women's pole vault

I made it. I'm the last one. It doesn't mean I'm the last one in the final. I have never been so nervous at a meet, not even NCAA's. I'm just really happy. I was blowing through poles, jumping really well and I didn't know what to do with that. I haven't been jumping so well since I've been in Europe. I had some good practices about a week and a half ago. I think it took me by surprise. I'm ready to roll. I'm really excited for the finals.Stacy Dragila, Women's pole vault

I had a rough day out there. It's not a full run for me. It's kind of a mediocre run. My confidence this year has been in the dumps. I know I could be on bigger poles, but today obviously wasn't a good day.I'll sit down and evaluate (the future). If I'm going to do this, I want to be healthy. Whether I take the rest of the season off or not, I'm not sure. It's up in the air.I have days that I jump well. I haven't been consistent like I have in the past. That's my bread and butter. Right now I've been very patchy. I just don't like jumping like that, I think I'm capable of much more.Jillian Schwartz, Women's pole vault

I'm not going to lie and say I think one of us is going to win, unless something weird happens. But I think we're definitely in there for medals. I'm definitely ready to PR. I just moved back to my full run a few weeks ago. So, I'm finally getting that figured that out and it went pretty well today. It was consistent, I was pretty happy with that. The wind was kind of crazy, it was all over the place, I didn't know what it was going to do. It was doing one thing at the back of the runway and another up front. It seems like a theme for this year. I came out kind of expecting rain and cold and wind, so it's not too bad. It's a great place to jump, maybe at night they'll calm down for the final.
