World Youth Championships sprint into Morocco

Marrakech, Morocco - Over 2,000 athletes ages 15-17 representing more than 170 countries will compete at the 4th IAAF World Youth Championships July 13-17 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Team USA dominated the medal table at the 2003 World Youth Championships in Sherbrooke, Canada and plans to add another powerful team in Morocco's Ochre City. The U.S. won 14 medals overall, six of them gold, ahead of medals runners-up Russia, who had 12 total medals including four golds.

Thirty-three of the top female and male youth athletes from across the U.S. were selected based on performances at the 2004 USATF Junior Olympics and Youth Outdoor Championships. Athletes who competed in the Bydgoszsz, Poland, Debrecen, Hungry and Sherbrooke, Canada at the World Youth Championships were medalists at the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
