INDIANAPOLIS – Eddy Hellebuyck has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after setting a new American masters record at the 2003 USA Masters10 km championship Sunday in Paso Robles, Calif.
A 1996 Olympian, Hellebuyck won the race in 29 minutes, 5 seconds on Sunday to shatter his own previous U.S. masters mark of 29:36. The 42-year-old from Albuquerque, N.M., also owns the U.S. masters records at 5 km, 15 km and 10 miles.
Now in its third year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
