FINALS
Men’s marathon 2:20 p.m. Team USA entrants: Ryan Shay (East Jordan, Mich.), Kevin Collins (Craryville, N.Y.), Clint Verran (Rochester Hills, Mich.), Keith Dowling (Reston, Va.), Jimmy Hearld (Louisville, Ky.) THE SCOOP: The men’s marathon winds its way through the city of Paris as runners take part in both team and individual competition. 2003 marathon champion Ryan Shay leads the U.S. contingent.
Men’s 110-meter hurdles 6 p.m. Team USA entrants: Allen Johnson (Irmo, S.C.), Terrence Trammell (Columbia, S.C.), Larry Wade (Canoga Park, Calif.), Chris Phillips (Maumelle, Ark.) THE SCOOP: Team USA has put an unprecedented four athletes in the final of a World Championships event. Two medals are a very strong possibility with this talented quartet. Three-time world champ Johnson is the heavy favorite and Trammell is the Olympic silver medalist, but last year’s #3 world-ranked Wade, and new talent Phillips can’t be discounted.
Women’s 4x100m relay 7:45 p.m. Team USA relay pool: Angela Daigle (Carson, Calif.), Gail Devers (Lawrenceville, Ga.), Chryste Gaines (Lithonia, Ga.), Inger Miller (Van Nuys, Calif.) Kelli White (Union City, Calif.), Angela Williams (Ontario, Calif.), Lauryn Williams (Miami, Fla.) THE SCOOP: The final lineup is expected to be composed of White, Edwards, Miller and Gaines, but the running order has yet to be officially announced. Regardless of order, this team should be lethal. White and Edwards are double medalists already at this World Championships, while Miller and Gaines are Olympic gold medalists, World Championships gold medalists and American record holders in the relay.
