JOs to be webcast at usatf.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |
INDIANAPOLIS – USA Track & Field, in cooperation with i2sports TrackMeets.com, will webcast the 2002 USATF Junior Olympic Championships live at www.usatf.org for the second consecutive year. The meet will be held July 23-28 in Omaha, Neb., and the webcast will cover every lap of every race.
USATF and TrackMeets.com launched a successful webcast of the Junior Olympic nationals in 2001 that was viewed by 34,000 people; those users collectively logged more than 8,500 hours watching the meet online.
"Our webcast in 2001 was enormously successful,” said USATF CEO Craig Masback. "We are extremely pleased to be working with i2sports TrackMeets.com once again to allow fans and the family members of competing athletes to get to see the meet live.”
"With the proliferation of computers, the Internet has emerged as the preferred medium for broadcasting grassroots events like the Junior Olympics,” said Kamal Jabbour, Chief Engineer of i2sports TrackMeets.com.
Viewing the webcast will require Windows Media Player and a high-speed Internet connection (384 kbps or faster--cable modem, DSL, T1, etc.). Windows Media Player is available free from Microsoft and can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/download/default.asp. To see if your Internet connection is fast enough to support the webcast, visit: http://www.dslreports.com/stest. A 56 kbps dial-up connection is insufficient, and you will likely receive audio only.
The USATF Web site will also feature daily results and news from Omaha that can be viewed with a traditional dial-up connection.
Featuring more than 6,500 youth athletes competing at Omaha’s Harry A. Burke (H.S.) Stadium, the Junior Olympic Championships is the final meet of the Verizon Youth Series.
