INDIANAPOLIS - The participation of seven U.S. Olympic gold medalists and several World Championships medalists makes Sunday's adidas Oregon Track Classic one of the top meets of the 2001 season.

USATF on Wednesday announced the fields for the June 3 meet, the second stop on USATF's Golden Spike Tour. The adidas Oregon Track Classic will be held at Mount Hood Stadium on the campus of Mount Hood Community College in Portland, Oregon, with field events beginning at Noon. The meet will be broadcast June 10 from 12:30-2:00 a.m. Eastern Time on ESPN2.

America's Olympic champions highlight the field. World indoor and outdoor record holder Stacy Dragila will compete in the Visa Women's pole vault after winning the meet last year with a clearance of 4.45 meters/14 feet, 7.25 inches. Two-time world outdoor champion and 1996 Olympic gold medalist Allen Johnson will compete in the GMC Envoy men's 110-meter hurdles. 2001 Olympic 4x400m relay gold medalist Antonio Pettigrew will compete in the men's 400 meters, while his teammate in Sydney, Jerome Young, will compete in the Pontiac Grand Prix men's 200-meters. Women's 4x400m relay gold medalists from Sydney Jearl Miles-Clark, LaTasha Colander-Richardson and Monique Hennigan will go head-to-head in the women's 400 meters.

Additional U.S. Olympic medal winners competing in the adidas Oregon Track Classic include 110m hurdles silver medalist Terrence Trammell, who will run in the 110m hurdles, and silver medalist Lawrence Johnson, who will compete in his specialty, the men's pole vault. Two-time world shot put champion and 2001 Olympic silver medalist in the shot, John Godina will compete in the men's discus throw, and U.S. indoor 200m champion and World Indoor 200m silver medalist LaTasha Jenkins will compete in the Verizon women's 200-meters.

Top international athletes competing include Olympic 4x100m gold medalist Chandra Sturrup of the Bahamas in the women's 200 meters, who will be joined in that event by 4x100m silver medalist Merlene Frazer of Jamaica. Other Jamaican Olympians in the field include Michael McDonald and Michael Blackwood in the men's 400 meters, and Michelle Freeman in the adidas women's 100m hurdles.

Women's Hammer - Noon

THE FIELD: Dawn Ellerbe, Jesseca Cross, Amy Palmer, Anna Norgren, Jenny Folz, Lisa Misipeka, Karyne Perkins-DiMarco, Bronwyn Eagles.

THE SCOOP: America's best go head-to-head in the SoBe Sports System Women's Hammer. Leading the field is American record holder and four-time U.S. outdoor champ Dawn Ellerbe, who finished 7th at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Ellerbe will be challenged by Amy Palmer, who finished second to Ellerbe at the 2001 Olympic Trials and placed 8th in Sydney.

Visa Women's Pole Vault - 1 p.m.

THE FIELD: Stacy Dragila, Kellie Suttle, Mel Mueller, Mary Sauer, Alicia Warlick, Becky Holliday, Vala Florsdottir, Nastja Rysich.

THE SCOOP: Stacy Dragila returns to the adidas Oregon Track Classic as a two-time world outdoor champ and gold medalist from the 2000 Olympic Games. Earlier this spring, Dragila bettered her own world record in the pole vault to 4.70 meters/15 feet, 5 inches. Dragila's 2001 Olympic teammates Kellie Suttle and Mel Mueller are slated to compete against her in Portland. Suttle, the 2001 World Indoor silver medalist, became the second American woman ever to clear the 15-foot barrier when she soared 15-0.25 (4.58m) in winning the Drake Relays last month. She later cleared 15-1/4.60m in winning the Modesto Relays on May 12.

GMC Envoy Men's 110-meter hurdles - 1 p.m.

THE FIELD: Terrence Trammell, Allen Johnson, Dawane Wallace, Dominique Arnold, Eugene Swift, Terry Reese, Rich Benoy,

THE SCOOP: 2000 Olympic silver medalist Terrence Trammell is the man to beat after completing an undefeated indoor season and winning the World Indoor 60m hurdles title in March. Trammell, who won his second consecutive U.S. Indoor title earlier this year, will take on his training partner, 1996 Olympic gold medalist and American record holder Allen Johnson, who won at Portland in 2000. The field also includes this season's world leader, Dawane Wallace, and Dominique Arnold, who finished second at Portland last year. 1996 Olympian Eugene Swift will also compete.

Men's 800 meters - 1:20 p.m.

THE FIELD: Khadevis Robinson, Rich Kenah, David Krummenaker, Derrick Peterson, Trinity Townsend, David Kiptoo, Nicholas Wachira, Anthony Kabara, Daniel Caufield, Zack Whitmarsh.

THE SCOOP: Defending Portland champ and 1999 U.S. Indoor and Outdoor champion Khadevis Robinson faces a tough challenge this year against 1997 World Outdoor Championships bronze medalist Rich Kenah and 1999 NCAA champ Derrick Peterson. 1996 Olympic finalist David Kiptoo is entered, along with fellow Kenyans Nicholas Wachira (2000 World Junior champ) and Anthony Kabara from Cumberland College. Canadian champion Zack Whitmarsh is also in the field. Women's 3000 Meters - 1:30 p.m.

THE FIELD: Cheri Kenah, Jen Rhines, Amy Rudolph, Clare Taylor, Carrie Tollefson, Kim Fitchen, Jenny Crain, Katie McGregor, Lyuda Vasilyeva, Anna Brzezinska, Meseret Defar, Ejagayou Dibaba, Una English, Eyerusalem Kuma.

THE SCOOP: Two-time Olympian and former U.S. 5,000 meter record holder Amy Rudolph leads the American contingent after finishing third at Portland last year. 1999 World Champs 5,000-meter finalist Cheri Kenah is also in the field along with Jen Rhines, who competed in the 10,000 meters at the 2000 Olympics. International stars to watch out for include Ethiopia's Ejagayou Dibaba, who finished second at last weekend's Boulder Boulder 10k, and Russia's Lyuda Vasilyeva, who placed second last weekend at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene.

Men's 400 meters - 1:55 p.m.

THE FIELD: Tyree Washington, Antonio Pettigrew, Daniel Batman, Michael Blackwood, Mike McDonald, Paul Lewis, Danny McFarlane, Sanderlei Parrela.

THE SCOOP: The 1997 World Championships bronze medalist, Tyree Washington enters the men's 400-meter competition in Portland with the fastest time in the world this season of 44.28. Washington and Antonio Pettigrew, who is also in the field, formed half of the U.S. squad that set the world record in the 4x400m relay of 2:54.20 at the 1998 Goodwill Games. The two Americans will face a strong challenge from Brazil's Sanderlei Parrela, who won the silver medal at the 1999 World Outdoor Championships.

Verizon Women's 200 meters - 2:15 p.m.

THE FIELD: LaTasha Jenkins, Chandra Sturrup, Merlene Frazer, Cydonie Mothersill, Nova Peris, Fali Ogunkoya, Astia Walker, Fatimat Yusuf.

THE SCOOP: 2001 World Indoor silver medalist LaTasha Jenkins enters this event as the only American in the field. The 2001 U.S. Indoor champ and 1999 NCAA winner at 200 meters will battle Chandra Sturrup of the Bahamas, who won a gold medal in the women's 4x100m relay at the 2000 Olympic Games. Other international challengers of note are Nigeria's Fali Ogunkoya, who won Olympic bronze at 400 meters at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, and Jamaican Merlene Frazer, who won the bronze medal at 200m at the 1999 World Championships.

Men's Pole Vault - 2:40 p.m.

THE FIELD: Lawrence Johnson, Chad Harting, Pat Manson, Russ Buller, Tim Mack, Derek Miles.

THE SCOOP: Leading this talented field is Lawrence Johnson, the Olympic silver medalist, indoor American record holder and 2001 World Indoor champion who has been the hottest vaulter in the world so far this year. 2000 Olympian Chad Harting beat out Pat Manson in a jump-off at the 2000 Olymic Trials to make the Olympic Team. Manson, the 1999 Pan American Games gold medalist may be looking for revenge.

adidas Women's 100-Meter Hurdles - 2:45 p.m.

THE FIELD: Jenny Adams, Sharon Couch, Damu Cherry, Vonette Dixon, Brigitte Foster, Michelle Freeman, Dionne Rose, Yvonne Kanazawa.

THE SCOOP: 2000 NCAA runner-up Jenny Adams and Damu Cherry have both run 12.85 this year, making them the fastest Americans in the field. A three-time U.S. World Championships team member, Sharon Couch is also a two-time Olympian and is always a threat. Look for Jamaica's Michelle Freeman, who won the World Championships bronze medal in 1997 and the GST Open @ Princeton Invitational May 10, to be the favorite.

Men's Discus - 2:55 p.m.

THE FIELD: John Godina, Andy Bloom, Adam Setliff, Doug Reynolds, Jason Tunks, Virgilijus Alkena, Vassili Kaptyukh, Aleksander Tammert, Ian Winchester.

THE SCOOP: Three of America's finest will take on the world's best in the men's discus. Adam Setliff, who placed 5th at the 2000 Olympics, will join John Godina (2000 Olympic shot put bronze medalist) and Andy Bloom (4th in SP in Sydney) in taking on Lithuanian Virgilijus Alekna. Alekna won the men's discus at the Olympics in Sydney and was named Track & Field News Male Athlete of the Year in 2000.

Men's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase - 3:00 p.m.

THE FIELD: Tim Broe, Tony Cosey, Mark Croghan, Robert Gary, Joel Bourgeois, Anthony Famiglietti, Rick Mestler, Tom Chorny, El Arbi Khattabi, Stephen Cherono, Salvador Mirandi, Darin Shearer, Cormac Smith, Raymond Yator.

THE SCOOP: Nearly all of America's top steeplers are in this impressive field. Three-time Olympian and four-time U.S. champ Mark Croghan is hoping to add to his total of seven victories in Portland. Croghan, who owns the meet record of 8:20.34 set in 1998, will compete against his 2001 Olympic teammate Tony Cosey, and 2001 U.S. 4k cross country champ Tim Broe. They will face Kenya's 2000 World Junior champion Raymond Yator, who ran the fourth-fastest time in the world last year.1999 World Championships finalist El Arbi Khattabi from Morocco will also compete, along with two-time Canadian Olympian Joel Bourgeois.

Women's 400 Meters - 3:25 p.m.

THE FIELD: Jearl Miles-Clark, LaTasha Colander-Richardson, Monique Hennagan, Suziann Reid, Kim Graham, Catherine Scott, Ladonna Antonie, Nadjina Kaltourma.

THE SCOOP: Making her first appearance ever at this meet, three-time Olympian and 1993 400m world champion Jearl Miles-Clark is a favorite. Miles-Clark also won a gold medal on the U.S. 4x400m relay teams at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. Olympic Trials champion LaTasha Colander-Richardson showed great form in the 4x400 at the Penn Relays and is also a favorite. Fellow relay gold medalist Monique Hennagan is also in the field, along with 1998 U.S. champ and 1996 Olympic 4x400 gold medalist Kim Graham. Suziann Reid, a two-time U.S. Indoor 400m champ, will also compete, along with Catherine Scott, a member of Jamaica's 4x400m relay team that won the silver medal in Sydney.

Men's 3,000 Meters - 3:35 p.m.

THE FIELD: Alan Culpepper, Dan Browne, Matt Downin, Greg Jimmerson, Brian Baker, Phil Price, Luke Watson, Tekeste Kebede, Birhanu Adane, Nigel Adkin, Mohammed Amyn, Birhanu Dejene.

THE SCOOP: Alan Culpepper, a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team at 10,000 meters, who ran 27:33.93 May 5 at Stanford, will lead the American contingent. 1998 10,000m U.S. champ Dan Browne is also in the field, along with 1994 U.S. Junior 5k champ Matt Downin. Brian Baker, the 1994 NCAA 5k champ, will also compete. Look for Ethiopian Tekeste Kebede, who placed sixth in last weekend's Bolder Boulder 10k, to push the pace.

Women's 800 Meters - 3:50 p.m.

THE FIELD: Shayne Culpepper, Jen Toomey, Stevtlana Badrankova, Diane Cummins, Charmaine Howell, Mardrea Hyman, Tina Paulino, Letitia Vriesde, Claudine Williams.

THE SCOOP: 2000 Olympian at 1,500 meters Shayne Culpepper will take on U.S. World Indoor team member Jen Toomey and Canadian champ Diana Cummins. Tina Paulino of Mozambique, who placed second to Olympic gold medalist Maria Mutola at last weekend's Prefontaine Classic, will also be a strong contender, along with Jamaican Olympian Mardrea Hyman.

Pontiac Grand Prix Men's 200 Meters - 4:00 p.m.

THE FIELD: Shawn Crawford, Ken Brokenburr, Kevin Little, Jerome Young, Kevin Braunskill, J.J. Johnson, Chris Williams, Aziz Zakari.

THE SCOOP: 2001 World Indoor champ Shawn Crawford is the favorite in this event, although a win won't come easily. Crawford will face 2000 Olympic 4x100m relay gold medalist Ken Brokenburr and 1997 World Indoor 200m champion Kevin Little. 2000 Olympic 4x400m relay gold medalist Jerome Young is also in the field. Jamaica's Chris Williams, who ran the eighth fastest time in the world last year, will also compete.

adidas Men's Mile - 4:10 p.m.

THE FIELD: Jason Pyrah, Adam Goucher, Andy Downin, Matt Holthaus, Charlie Gruber, Ibrahim Aden, Hudson de Souza, James Karanu, Martin Keino, Edward Maranga, Leonard Mucheru, Andrew Walker, Daniel Zegeye.

THE SCOOP: Olympic Trials 5,000m champion Adam Goucher makes his outdoor debut at Portland after battling injuries since the Olympics. 2000 Olympic tenth-place finisher in the 1,500 meters, Jason Pyrah, will give Goucher a strong challenge. Andy Downin, sixth in the 1,500m at last year's Olympic Trials, is also in the field, along with Matt Holthaus, who placed eighth in that event. Ethiopia's Daniel Zegeye finished sixth last year at the Sydney Olympics and is a favorite.
