Instructors
- Shawn Venable is in his second year at Oral Roberts
University where he is in charge of the field events and assists head coach
Joe Dial with the sprinting events. Last season Venable coached Morrie
Turner to 2nd team All-American honors in the long jump with his leap of
25’0 and Tim Jones to a national qualifying mark in the triple jump
(49’11). Prior to his arrival at ORU, Venable served five years as the head
coach at Bacone College. During Venable's tenure, Bacone won two Red River
Conference Titles (2009 and 2012), and finished as the RRAC runners-up
twice. The program produced 17 NAIA All-Americans, three NAIA Academic
All-Americans, 65 NAIA national qualifiers, 15 RRAC Individual Champions,
103 RRAC All-Conference and 47 RRAC Academic All-Conference honors.
Additionally, Venable twice received the Red-River Conference Men's Coach of
the Year Award (2009 and 2012). Venable has his USATF Level 3 and IAAF Level
V Coaching Education certifications in the jumping events and is completing
the requirements for the same certifications in the sprints, hurdles relays
events.
- Joel Pearson enters his first year as Head Cross
Country and Assistant Track & Field coach at Kennesaw State University. Joel
is completing the requirements to receive his USATF Level 3/ IAAF Level V
coaching certification in the Endurance events. Additionally, he has his
USATF Level 2 in Combined Events and the Jumps. Prior to Kennesaw State,
Pearson worked as the Head XC and Asst T&F coach at North Carolina A&T State
University where his athletes re-wrote the record book with 8 school records
and recorded 40 all-time top 10 marks. Before leading the Aggies, Pearson
did coaching stents at the University of Iowa and Whatcom CC. As a private
coach and founder of Harrier Track Club, an Olympic development program,
Pearson has trained three National Junior qualifiers and an American Jr
record holder. He is currently finishing his master’s degree in sports
science from the United States Sports Academy.
- Tony Veney enters is in his third year as the Head
Coach at Ventura College. He brings over 35 years of extensive track and
field coaching from high school, NCAA Division 1, 2, and 3 national and
international levels. His coaching career includes six years as the
sprint/hurdle/relay mentor for the UCLA Bruins. He was also head cross
country coach for Portland State University (2001-2003), and the
sprint/hurdle/jump/multi event/middle distance coach for the Oregon Ducks
(1998-2001). He has coached over 70 NCAA All-Americans, three NCAA
Champions, and one world junior record holder. Coach Veney is a USATF Level
1, 2 & 3 instructor with a master of coaching certificate. He is a regular
speaker at national track and field clinics, and has produced and published
several videos and books related to the specialized areas of sprints and
hurdles. Veney is a 1976 graduate of UCLA with a degree in History. He was
the former 800 meter record holder for the Bruins, and was a member of two
NCAA outdoor track and field championship teams. He received his Master's
Degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific University.
- Katherine Adams, MSN, RN, CSCS is a throws coach at
Salem High School in New Hampshire. She is a IAAF Level V and a USATF Level
3 Coach in the throws. Adams has also completed the Level 2 program in the
sprints/hurdles/relays. She has coached multiple division and state
champions, as well as all-state selected athletes.
