- Shawn Venable is in his second year at Oral Roberts
University where he is in charge of the field events. Last season Venable
coached Morrie Turner to 2nd team All-American honors in the long jump with
his leap of 25’0 and Tim Jones to a national qualifying mark in the triple
jump (49’11). Prior to his arrival at ORU, Venable served five years as the
head coach at Bacone College. During Venable's tenure, Bacone won two Red
River Conference Titles (2009 and 2012), and finished as the RRAC runners-up
twice. The program produced 17 NAIA All-Americans, three NAIA Academic
All-Americans, 65 NAIA national qualifiers, 15 RRAC Individual Champions,
103 RRAC All-Conference and 47 RRAC Academic All-Conference honors.
Additionally, Venable twice received the Red-River Conference Men's Coach of
the Year Award (2009 and 2012). During the 2011 and 2012 seasons, Bacone had
a national qualifier in almost every sprint and jumping event including
All-American honors or school records in the 100m (10.37), 200m (21.28),
400m (47.98), 4x400m relay (3:11), long jump (24’8½), triple jump (51’4) and
high jump (6’9). Venable has his USATF Level 3 and IAAF Level 5 Coaching
Education certifications (the highest attainable) in the jumping events and
is completing the requirements for the same certifications in the sprints,
hurdles relays events. Additionally, Venable has a USATF Level 2
certification in the throwing events. He also has the USTFCCCA Academy
Specialist Certifications in the jumping events as well as the sprints,
hurdles, relays. Shawn and his wife, Ashley, have two sons, Keegan and
- Joel Pearson enters his first year as Head Cross
Country and Assistant Track & Field coach at Kennesaw State University. Joel
is completing the requirements to receive his USATF Level 3/ IAAF Level 5
coaching certification in the Endurance events. Additionally, he has his
USATF Level 2 in Combined Events and the Jumps. He also holds an Endurance
Certification from the USATFCCA. Prior to Kennesaw State, Pearson worked as
the Head XC and Asst T&F coach at North Carolina A&T State University where
his athletes re-wrote the record books with 8 school records and recorded 40
all-time top 10 marks. Before leading the Aggies, Pearson did coaching
stents at the University of Iowa and Whatcom CC. As a private coach and
founder of Harrier Track Club, an Olympic development program, Pearson has
trained three National Junior qualifiers and an American Jr. record holder.
Among those are Canadian Olympic Trials qualifier (3k St), a U.S. Olympic
Trials qualifier (10k), a Canadian Track and Field National qualifier
(1,500m/5k), a World Junior qualifier (Mtn), and three USA Junior National
qualifiers (3k, 5k, 10k). He also coached 24 National Junior Olympic
qualifiers in cross country. The list of record holders he has coached
includes an American Junior record in the 50k and an El Salvador National
Junior record in the 800 meters. He is currently finishing his master’s
degree in sports science from the United States Sports Academy.
