Bradshaw Fitness Center is located on the northbound feeder of US-59 between
Beechnut and Fondren. The course will be instructed in Classrooms A, B, and C on
the second floor.

Instructors
- Richie Mercado is the St. John’s High School (Houston,
TX) Head Track & Field Coach. Richie competed as a decathlete at University
of Virginia. He has coached 29 years at St. John's School and is the Head
Coach for girls and boys. During that time he has coached dozens of
conference champions in the pole vault, high jump, long jump, triple jump,
sprints, and hurdles. He is USATF level 2 Coach in the jumps and combined
events and is the Jr. Coordinator for USA Heptathlon. Mercado was the Head
Coach for Team USA Heptathlon in the 2008 Thorpe Cup USA-Germany dual and
the 2011 NACAC Cup Heptathlon in Jamaica. He has served several times as an
instructor in USATF Women's Jr. Elite jump camps, working with many top
juniors, including Tianna Madison, 2005 World Champ in the LJ. He has
directed the St. John’s Track & Field Camps for the past 18 years, and has
served as secretary and annual congress coordinator of the North America,
Central America, and Caribbean T&F Coaches Association for the last 22
years.
- Casey Thom is an Assistant Coach at Rice University
responsible for coaching the men’s sprints, throws, and multi-events. Thom
was an All-American decathlete at the University of Nebraska. Before
arriving in Houston, Thom had stints at UCLA, Tulane, and the University of
Nebraska. He is a USATF Level 2 Coach in the Sprints, Jumps, Multi-Events,
and the Throws. Thom coached Ryan Harlan, who was ranked 7th in the world in
the decathlon in 2006. In 2007 Harlan was the NACAC decathlon champion and
placed 4th at the USA championships. Thom holds a Master’s degree in sport
coaching and is USATF level 2 Coach in Sprints, Jumps, Throws, and
Multi-Events.
- Ryan Turner is entering his first season as the Head
XC/Track & Field Coach at Pratt Community College. Prior to coaching at
Pratt CC, Turner spent five years at the University of Houston as the Head
Cross Country and Assistant Track & Field Coach. Turner’s 2011 Men’s team
placed 3rd at the CUSA Championships. During his time at Houston, Turner
coached two individuals to advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
The Holdenville, Oklahoma., native holds a bachelor’s degree in physical
education, a master's degree in education and is USATF Level 2 Coach in the
endurance and sprints/relays/hurdles events. He has two daughters, Lauryn
and Haylie.
