Selecting the 2005 USATF 100K Team

The USATF 100K National Team will compete in the 2005 International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 100K World Cup Under the Patronage of the IAAF in Lake Saroma Japan on June 26, 2005. The annual 100K World Cup race is the one international venue at which USA Track & Field (USATF) has fielded an ultra distance team for over a decade.  The United States will be represented by the USATF 100K Team of six men and six women ultrarunners.  The twelve-member team, and six alternates, will be selected by the USATF Mountain/Ultra/Trail (MUT), Running Council which was established in 1998 to help USATF administer ultrarunning in the United States.

2005 USATF 100K Team Qualification

To be considered for the USATF 100K team, American runners must be current USATF members and meet one of the following qualification standards.

1. Athletes who finish in the top ten overall in the men's and women's competition at the 2004 IAU 100 km World Cup will automatically be named to the 2005 USATF 100K team

2. Athletes will be selected based on performances at USATF/MUT National Championships and other major U.S. and international ultra distance races at the 100K and 50 mile distance.  The qualifying period is January 1, 2004 - March 6, 2005.  Performances will be ranked in this order:

a. 100K performances under 7:40 (men) and 8:40 (women)

b. 50 mile performances under 5:50 (men) and 6:50 (women)

For a list of 50 Mile and 100K races between Nov 1, 2004 and March 6, 2005, click here.

3. If team spots remain open after the above two standards have been applied, the following additional standards will be used to rank other significant performances between January 1, 2004 and March 6, 2005. Multiple qualifying performances will be given priority over a single performance.
