Tussey Mountainback 50 Mile Selected as Championship
In 2004 ultra,
trail, and mountain runners will have the broadest opportunity to run USATF
national championship and selection races in the history of the
Mountain/Ultra/Trail Running Council (MUT)
championship program. In response to the request for
bids for USATF national championships, MUT received, in January, a bid for the
50 Mile Road championship. In selecting national MUT championships, the MUT
Council balances the quality of the event with the championship race experience
it provides. The Tussey Mountainback 50 Mile was chosen as the MUT Championship
for 2004 for open and masters athletes.
The race will be held on October 2, 2004 in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania. Housing and free entries will be available to selected athletes. The Tussey Mountainback offers $2000 in prize money.
The Tussey Mountainback 50 Mile is a single-loop course through central Pennsylvania's striking Rothrock State Forest during fall foliage season. The race takes place on paved and gravel roads with shaded and open segments and overlooks, taking in two state parks, two lakes, and two designated natural areas. Total elevation gain is 5,035 feet.
