Halls to Welcome Youth Athletes at Junior Olympics

Photo of Ryan and Sara Hall2009 Olympian Ryan Hall and his wife, professional athlete, Sara Hall will attend the 2009 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships next month (December 12) in Reno, Nevada. The Halls will welcome over 2,500 of the country's best youth athletes at the Opening Ceremonies on Friday, December 11. The pair will also sign autographs, pose for pictures and provide the athletes with inspiration on race day.

"We are so excited to attend the Junior Olympics," said Ryan Hall. "Sara and I got our start in the sport at an early age and are eager to see these young athletes compete. On race day expect us to be the two biggest cheerleaders out on the course."

"(Ryan) Hall won the 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials and went on to finish 10th at last summer's Olympic Games. He is the U.S. record holder in the half marathon (59:43) and his 2:06:17 marathon makes him the 2nd fastest American ever.

Sara won the 2006 USA 5 km Championships and was 6th at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field in the 5000m. She has a 5000m personal best of 15:20.88 and a 1500m best of 4:08.99. While in high school she won the prestigious Foot Locker National Championships and represented Team USA at the World Cross County Championships in Dublin, Ireland.

The Halls recently began the charitable group The Steps Foundation which focuses on ending world poverty. They worked on a campaign in 2008 entitled, "More Precious than Gold," that raised nearly one million dollars to help bring clean water wells and irrigation systems to poor communities in Zambia.
