We started and Ben (Shorey) took off from the beginning, which surprised me. Patrick (Stroupe) and I were talking and he wanted to go after him right away. I told him to calm down and we slowly realed Shorey in.
 
It was very good, I’m very happy with the win. I want to be a good mentor to the young athletes that I coach and it helps when I win.
 
I’m very thankful I had the New York Athletic Club (NYAC) as a sponsor. Without them, there would be no 37th national title today.
