“The pace went out and I didn’t have to lead but I just didn’t want to be any slower than 80s for the 5k. We were quite a bit faster than that so I was happy but I was really anxious. I just kept holding back and holding back and after the halfway just tested the waters and just held on after that. I’m really glad I waited because it was a tough last three miles, a lot harder than I thought it would be.”
 
On his strategy coming into the race:
“Just to wait until the halfway point and then make a move and see if anyone came with me. Then try and hold on and kick. The race went to plan, I was really happy with that.”
