On his race strategy:
“It’s very windy today so all I wanted to do for the last three laps was to just stay behind the huge pack right in front of me – they blocked most of the wind. With about 600 to go I moved up into third and was sitting there around the turn and then with 500 to go I took second with a  pretty strong move and then I just kept the arms going fast and kept my turn over going and my legs. I knew I was reeling him in but then I hit the back stretch and I was like ‘Whoa, there’s the wind again.’ That was really the first time I really hit it so I just fought through it and got around the turn. That’s when I started to hear the crowd. I caught him with about 120 to go, swung wide and just let it go. I looked up at the jumbotron and saw I was starting to pull away and that’s when I gave a little fist pump, a little emotional release, then threw up the Oregon “O” at the finish line.”
 
On the Hayward Field crowd bringing him home down the stretch:
“That’s where you can really feel it. You kind of get out of the tunnel vision of the race and you can really enjoy where your running and the overall race. I kind of opened up and looked up at the crowd and really enjoyed it. This is just my second race here and it was awesome.”
