Travel Funding

An allocation of funds will be provided first to the defending U.S. Outdoor/Olympic Trials Champion* in each event, and then to the top four ranked outdoor performers, based on the 2009 U.S. Outdoor List (performances as of June 15,2009).

If the defending U.S. Outdoor Champion is not entered and qualified for the Outdoor Championships by the on-time entry deadline (Monday, June 15, 2009 by 11:59 p.m. ET), funding will then be allocated to the top five (5) ranked performers in each event who have entered by the on-time entry deadline and who have met the qualifying mark.

For this allocation, funds will be awarded to the top ranked athletes based on rankings in the distance/discipline and NOT times or distances achieved in alternate qualifying distance/time being contested at the Championships (i.e. 1,500, but not Mile). The only exception to this would be in the case of the allocation to the Defending Champion, who simply needs to be ENTERED AND QUALIFIED in order to be allocated and, therefore, could use an alternate distance/time.

In addition to the payments as described above, an allocation of funds will be provided to those athletes who were not allocated funding prior to the Outdoor Championships but who place in the top four (4) in the event at the 2009 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

In order to be eligible for the Outdoor Championships travel allocations, an athlete must be a current USATF member in good standing; must have entered by the on-time entry deadline (Monday, June 15, 2009 by 11:59 p.m. ET); must have met the qualifying standard set by USATF no later than the on-time entry deadline; and must be a citizen of the United States of America who is eligible to represent the U.S. in international competition.

* Athletes in all events at the U.S. Outdoor Championships, including the defending champion, must have posted a qualifying mark during the qualifying window in order to qualify for a travel funding allocation.

Notes:

  • Athletes in all events at the U.S. Outdoor Champions will only qualify for funding based on 2009 outdoor marks, except for the defending champion.
  • Travel funding breakdown:
    • Airfare: based on a "supersaver" fare (21-day advance purchase/Saturday night stay-over)
    • Per diem/accommodations will be a flat rate of $250
  • Travel funding distribution:
    • Athletes who qualify for pre-allocations will receive their checks at packet pick-up at the Championships
    • Athletes who qualify for post-allocations will receive their checks via mail (U.S. Postal Service) after all drug testing results have become final
