On my first throw, it felt pretty close but not quite as well as the warm-ups. My second and third throws I forced a little bit. I couldn't get into the rhythm I was looking for. I took a warm-up throw between the prelims and the finals and got a little more of the rhythm I was looking for. That was the throw. I was a little more relaxed. I found a closer throw to what I wanted. I felt it was better, but I wanted a better throw. I wasn't paying too much attention to (the other competitions) because I was still looking for that good throw. The fourth one was close.

It's really special. It's something I wanted for a long time. I've been going to USA Nationals since the 1996 Olympic Trials. I've been to a lot of these. Granted, I was young at the time. But I have gotten to see the type of person that was national champion every years since then. It's quite an honor to finally achieve that.
