For events on the 2009 Pan Am Junior Championships competition program, two (2) athletes per individual event will select themselves through head-to-head competition at the Junior Championships for the USATF Pan American Junior Championships Team (the “Team”). In addition, USATF will select up to two (2) additional athletes for each relay team/pool, such selection to be based on competitive considerations. In order to be eligible for the Team, an athlete must compete in and finish their respective event at the Junior Championships.

  1. In events with a preliminary round or rounds, the rank order of finish will first be from the finals in that event, then the semi-finals, then the preliminaries.
  2. In each event, if an athlete declines to participate on the Team, USATF will select the next highest ranked individual, until the two positions for each event are filled.

Note: There are no qualifying standards in place for the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. Consequently, place finish order at the Junior Championships will be the sole determinant for an athlete to make the Team.

Age Requirements

The Pan Am Junior Championships are open to athletes who will be 16, 17, 18 or 19 on December 31, 2009. Any athlete who is twenty (20) years of age or more on December 31, 2009 is ineligible for the Team.
