Course Details

Description

The course is judged by competitive athletes familiar with it to be one of the fastest record-quality 5 km road race courses in the world.  Athletes competing on the course have set U.S. single-age 5 km records; U.S. five-year age-group 5 km records; and the U.S. men's 5 km junior record.  The course is out-and-back in shape.  It is rather flat, and the measured shortest possible route is marked for the benefit of performance-minded participants.  Although the race-time temperature is typically near 50 degrees, water is available both on the way out (approx. 1,500m) and on the way back (approx. 3,500m).  The course is closed to vehicular traffic.  Marked splits include all kilometers, the one-mile mark, and the halfway mark.  Split times are called at all of these locations, and chip-timed results will include each participant's halfway-split time as well as his or her finishing time.
