Athlete Quotes - Men's 3000m Steeplechase Semifinal
Joshua McAdams, Heat 1 (Third Place)
"My coach said to keep it down and keep it safe because he wanted to make sure that I made the top-four. It's all about saving your energy because its not about who has the fastest kick, but who has the fastest kick after being tired."
"I was probably eighth until about three laps to go. There was a little bit of a wind down the backstretch, so I was conserving my energy."
"I am excited and it went well today. I was nervous before, but it got some of the nerves out. I usually recover really well between the races, so we will see what's in store."
William Nelson, Heat 1 (Second Place)
"It went out a little quick. We were above what pace I wanted to go. Also I said if the pace was going fast enough I was going to try and get the "A" standard in the prelim because I don't have it yet. It wasn't quite that fast. It kind of settled toward the end, but I PR'd by over two seconds and live to fight another day."
"My ultimate plan was to make the final. If it was fast, I wanted to make the "A" standard so I wouldn't have to worry about it in the final, but, the way these guys ran tonight, I am hoping they will be able to take it. If they don't, I am going to have to do it in the finals. I know what pace I need to run and what I need to stay on."
Benjamin Bruce, Heat 2 (First Place)
"You can't argue with that. It is weird because I didn't know what I wanted for a race plan going in. I kind of wanted to be up towards the front a little more in the beginning but I just kind of got boxed in off the line. The pace was fasted enough that it was actually a good spot to be in the back there. The fifth lap is always the toughest one in the steeple and I knew if I just ran even on that lap I would move up a lot."
"The name of the game now, since I don't have the A standard, is not just top three. It has to be with an A standard. The steeple is wide open."
Kyle Alcorn, Heat 2 (Second Place)
"This is kind of the cherry on top for and anything that happens here is great for me."
"I kind of took my college season light in May and April to prepare for this and I think it has helped so far."
