Michelle Carter, Olympic Qualifier, Winner
On father/daughter Olympic team members: "It's a great feeling. There are not too many combos like this."
"He tells me about the difference competing in the U.S. and competing overseas."
"Most of the time I start out bad. Today I started good. Mentally it usually takes me a minute to get going. I need to get moving from the start."
"This let me know what I can accomplish in the future. I put pressure on myself. I wanted to perform well and make the Olympic Team. (My dad) always knew I could make it. Being so young, there are things to learn, things I need to do well. I'm getting it."
"This has been a great experience. The energy here is excellent. It's hard not to get too excited. I have to watch that."
Kristin Heaston, Olympic Qualifier, Second Place
"I am just happy that my last three throws were better than my first three throws. Warm ups were great but then I have been kind of playing that game all year long which is not what I like to do. I am just glad that I got it together. I have been waiting sort of all season for this adrenaline to get ready for the Olympics Trials and perform well at the Olympic Trials and it has not been there. I had a couple warm up throws in between (preliminaries) and finals and something just turned on."
"I am so excited about this team. It is a great team. In 2004, it was really hard when Jill [Camarena] just missed the team and not hitting the standard and then having to go through all the backstreets and things. Of course I want to make sure I am on the team. I am so proud of her. I felt so bad for her in 2004 when she just missed it. It is awesome she made it."
Jillian Camarena, Olympic Qualifier, Third Place
"I always try to stay relaxed and I had a decent first throw. I thought to myself 'This is going to go well,' but I kept not throwing farther and I started to get nervous. Luckily my first throw held up and I made the team. Today didn't feel as good as qualifying but making the team is so amazing after all I've been through with my surgeries and the setbacks. Almost every day I didn't think I could do this, but my family and support system really pulled me through. The next three weeks are all about training and getting repetitions."
