Information Regarding Blood Collection
By competing in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field, you have consented to be subject to drug testing and adhere to the USADA Protocol for Olympic Movement Testing aimed at protecting your right to compete clean and the integrity of competition. All registered competitors may be subject to blood testing and, if notified for drug testing, are required to comply with the applicable rules. Non-compliance or refusing to be tested is an anti-doping rules violation and will result in the same penalties as a positive test for steroids.
USADA will conduct testing in accordance with its protocol, which is consistent with the applicable International Standard for Testing.
Prior to the collection, athletes will have to remain seated for a period of approximately 30 minutes before the collection is performed to ensure his/her system reaches stability.
At the time of collection, four (4) tubes of blood will be drawn from each athlete selected for testing. The total volume of blood that will be collected is approximately ½ ounce (or only one (1) tablespoon). Overall, this is approximately 0.3% of the body's total blood volume (which is 5 liters). The body will replenish this volume within a few hours.
Blood samples may be analyzed for any Prohibited Substance or Method and used for intra individual parameter analysis. Athletes will receive results regarding the collection, for any analysis resulting in a positive/negative outcome.
