Qualifying Guidelines

  1. All qualifying performances must be made on indoor tracks. No allowances are provided for indoor facilities of differing size, bank or other configuration, or altitude.
  2. Qualifying marks must be made in accordance with USATF Rule 149 and verifiable in one of the following:
    1. USATF- or IAAF-sanctioned events that prescribe to or exceed USATF rules of competition
    2. events at collegiate meets that prescribe to or exceed USATF rules of competition
    3. high school meets, except dual and triangular meets
  3. Indoor qualifying standards must be met between and including Saturday, November 11, 2006 and Sunday, February 18, 2007.
  4. Fully automatic timing (F.A.T.) is the only method of timing acceptable for qualifying marks for events equal to or shorter than 400 meters.
  5. A manual time may be used for qualifying for events of 800 meters and longer only if no F.A.T. qualifying time exists for the race during the qualifying period. A manual time may not supersede any F.A.T. qualifying time for an event. Qualifying manual times, for eligible events, are the F.A.T. qualifying time without the last zero for men and the F.A.T qualifying time minus 0.14 for women. Manual times will be converted for seeding purposes using USATF Rule 76.
  6. Times submitted in hundredths of a second must be F.A.T. times.
  7. An entered athlete attaining a qualifying mark within one-tenth percent (0.1%) of the standard for a running event, or 2 cm below the standard for the shot put or weight throw, or 1 cm below the standard for other field events may declare their desire to compete during the normal declaration period. Athletes within this allowance may be accepted into the competition by the Sport Committee Chair when positions are available in existing heats or sections in running events or when the number of competitors in a field event is fewer than 12.
  8. The Sport Committee Chair will adjust the standards, where necessary, forty five days prior to the competition, based on received entries at that time. Therefore, early submission of an entry close to the qualifying standard is advised.
  9. For the race walks only: If fewer than 10 entered athletes have met the indoor qualifying standard by the on-time entry deadline, outdoor times may be used to fill the field to 10 competitors. Outdoor times may not supersede any indoor qualifying times for an event, and may only be used by athletes who live farther than 500 miles from an indoor meet. Once entered and accepted, athletes with outdoor times cannot be bumped out of the field by athletes who enter and qualify based on indoor times after the on-time entry deadline. Qualifying outdoor times must be made in a USATF- or IAAF-sanctioned race on a 400-meter outdoor track with a minimum of 3 starters of the same sex and appropriate judging in accordance with USATF Rules of Competition. Athletes using an outdoor time for qualifying are not eligible for travel funds based upon that time. In addition to entering online through the normal entry process, athletes wishing to use this allowance must submit their outdoor time and the name and phone number of the head judge to Vince Peters by 5:00 p.m. ET on the day of the on-time entry deadline.
  10. All performances are subject to verification.
