Scoring Details
- The
top American male finisher and top American female
finisher in each eligible event at each of the Visa
Championship Series meets can score points.
-
Events eligible for scoring are those that are
contested as championship events at the USA Outdoor
Track & Field Championships and those that can be used
as alternates for qualifying for the Championships
(e.g., the Mile is an alternate qualifying event for
the 1,500m). Events not meeting the above definition
are not scored.
-
Athletes score points based on
their performance in the final of their event
(performances in preliminaries, opening rounds, or
semi-finals shall not be scored). Points are assigned
based on the
IAAF Scoring Tables of Athletics,
adjusted for wind in specified events according to
IAAF standards.*
* Wind Adjustment: In events with wind readings
(100m, 200m, 100m Hurdles, 110m Hurdles, Long Jump,
Triple Jump, Decathlon, Heptathlon), points will be
adjusted according to the IAAF Wind Modification
System. The adjustment is +/- 0.6 points for every -/+
0.1 m/s, and the point totals are rounded down after
the modification.
- In
order to be eligible to be declared the Winner or to
win prize money in the top 5 standings, athletes
must win their event at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor
Track & Field Championships. The event won at the AT&T
USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships must be the
same event in which the athlete scored points during
the Visa Championship Series; points can be scored at
any Visa Championship Series meet.
- The
male and female athletes with the highest point values
for their individual performances, who also won their
events at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field
Championships, will be declared the Visa Champions.
Second through fifth-place finishers will be those
with the next-highest point totals.
-
Prize money breakdown is as follows, for both men and
women: 1st - $100,000; 2nd - $30,000; 3rd - $15,000;
4th - $10,000; 5th - $5,000.
-
If an athlete wins two or more events
at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships,
that athlete is eligible to win more than one of the
Visa Championship prizes based on his or her
performances in each event.
- In
the case of tie between performers in different
events, the prize money will be split. That is, if
two performances earn the same points and are the
highest score in the Outdoor Visa Championship Series,
then those two performers will split the combined
first and second place prize. If two performers tie
with the fifth-highest score, then they shall split
the fifth-place prize evenly.
