2005 USA 50 km Trail Championships August 27, 2005
Dave Mackey of Boulder Colo. and Julie Udchachon of Eagle River, Alaska each claimed USA 50 km Trail Championship titles while winning the Headlands 50K. The race was held in the scenic Golden Gate National Recreation area and the Mt. Tamalpais California State Park located in San Francisco, Calif. Runners where challenged by the exceptionally demanding course that included seven major hills with a cumulative climb of over 7,000 feet. Mackey's time of 3:49:31 broke Scott Creel's 2003 course record of 3:49:54. Fellow Boulderian, Bryan Dayton followed Mackey across the line in 3:55:44 and William Emerson, Portland, Ore., finished 3rd with a time of 4:03:11. Udchachon's ran 4:32:38 and was followed by Beverley Anderson-Abbs of Red Bluff, Calf. and Jenny Capel of Reno, Nev. following with times of 4:36:35 and 4:52:14. |
