High Performance Center

USATF, in conjunction with the USOC and Dartfish, is pleased to host a High Performance Center at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field. The Center will be located in the Capitol Ballroom A in the Doubletree Hotel adjacent to the Athlete Hospitality Lounge. Hours of operations are from 8:00 a.m. to midnight daily. All events will be filmed and video clips with computer-aided analysis will be available the morning following each event. USATF, USOC, and Dartfish staff will be on hand to assist athletes and coaches.

Athletes participating in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field are being asked to participate in a research study. Duke University's K Lab is conducting the study and will be collecting information during the Olympic Trials. The information will be used to develop cardiac-based physiological profiles of elite athletes to see how those profiles differ among athletes competing in speed, explosive, and endurance events.

Cardiac physiological information will be collected using the OmegaWave Sport Technology System. The testing collection process (which is non-invasive and non-stressful) takes approximately five minutes and is done at rest. No blood is drawn and no exertion is required.

Confidentiality will be maintained on all information collected. No names or other personal information will be used in any published report. Results of the individual physiological assessments will not be provided to the athletes participating in the study or to their coaches.

Participation in this research project is voluntary. If you are interested in participating, please visit the USATF High Performance Center at the DoubleTree Hotel before you begin competition in your event. Information collection needs to be done before you engage in any strenuous physical activity for the day.

We will be testing athletes from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. daily beginning Thursday, July 7. For additional information, or to sign up to participate in this study, please stop by USATF's High Performance Center, which is located at the DoubleTree Hotel.
