Athlete Quotes - Saturday Women's High Jump Chaunte Howard - winner It was a clean competition for me, I really felt good with my performance. I didn't have any misses today. Everything I've learned during the season is coming together. My confidence is great about competing my senior women's high jump. Men's High Jump Keith Moffat - winner I was not satisfied. I could have done a better job by not jumping into the blocks when I should have been jumping up (over the blocks). Michael Morrison - 2nd place I came here and accomplished my main goal to make it through (to become a member of Team USA). I am happy overall with my performance and satisfied with where I finished. Men's Discus Throw Adam Kuehl - winner It was early in the morning, but I wanted to go out there and compete as if it were practice. I felt really good about my technique. Harold Young - 2nd place I could have done better, but I am glad that I performed well (overall). My technique could have been better. I plan to work harder at practice. Women's Long Jump Tianna Madison - winner I am very excited. This is the first time I've won the Junior Nationals. I jumped well here today. On my first three steps I focused on my approach and after I hit the board, everything was natural. Renee Williams - 2nd place I did not do as good as I thought, but I made it through (to win). I needed to work on getting off the board and holding my knees up afterwards. Women's 200m Shalonda Solomon - winner I was trying to get out and stay ahead of the pack early in the race. My focus was to keep my head straight and not wobble on the curve. Shana Cox - 2nd place It was different coming out here to California (to compete). This was a good day for some good competition. I tried to use the same strategy by accelerating on the curve to finish strong. Men's 200m Aaron Collins - winner I was kind of skeptical after just running the NCAA championships last week. I had a strong finish, but did not get a great start. I know I had to relax as much as possible because I'm not the best curve runner. I have to realize that this race is the 200 and not the 100. I need to focus on keeping my form. Men's Pole Vault Tommy Skipper - winner I did the best I could to jump high today. My take off was good. This was my fourth time jumping all year long. Women's Pole Vault Julene Bailey - winner I am excited about my performance today. I had a lot of good clearances. I really enjoy competing here at Stanford because of the good competition. I had a great day with my technique. Women's 5,000m Amy Hastings It felt good the whole way. Rebecca Walters took out a great pace and I just wanted to stay with her at the end. My coach gave me the signal to go all out to pull ahead (to take the lead) earlier in the race. It was my first time ever having to kick out at the end to win the way I did. I was surprised to set the meet record. Women's Javelin Throw Rachel Walker - winner I was happy even though I did not get a personal best, and happy that my best friend (Hannah Warfield) got second place. I look forward to going to Barbados. On my technique, I was doing a half run up instead of my full run up. Hannah Warfield - 2nd place This was my first junior nationals ever. The competition is what I expected. I knew I had to get a PR to go to Barbados (for Pan Am Juniors) and happy that I was able to do that today. I still have a few more glitches to work out. Men's 10,000m Brett Gotcher - winner The plan was to start making some moves around the 2 km. I kept looking to my coach to see when to pull ahead. I got into my rhythm with the rest of it, but I was getting a little antsy and knew I had to calm myself down. I knew there was plenty of time in the race, so I stayed patient. |
