One of America's top distance runners in the mid-1980s, Schweitzer Bennett has coached at Wake Forest University for four years. As an athlete Schweitzer Bennett was the 1984 NCAA 5,000m champion and six-time All-American at Texas. She served as the head women's track & field coach at Wake Forest for two years before being named the Director of Wake Forest Track & Field following the 2001 season, when the men's and women's programs merged. She also remains the head coach of the women's cross country team. Prior to Wake Forest, Bennett spent five years as the head coach of the women's track and cross country program at Stephen F. Austin State University, where she was the 1998 the Southland Conference's women's cross country coach of the year. She spent two years as the assistant coach for the women's track and field program at the University of Texas from 1992 through 1994. Bennett has also served as the head coach of the U.S. Junior Women's Cross Country team. A native of Baton Rouge, La., Bennett earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Texas in 1988 and earned a Master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Southwest Texas State University in 1995. |
