The Junior Olympic program is a progressional series of meets consisting of preliminary, Association, Regional, and National meets. As athletes advance upon performance at each level, they only need to submit an entry form at the first level of competition (i.e., an athlete cannot directly submit an entry form for the Regional competition; he/she must have competed and advanced at the Association meet; the entry form is then automatically forwarded to the next level).
With the exception of the combined events (see below), the top three finishers in each Association meet qualify for the Regional meet, and the top three finishers in each Regional meet qualify for the National Championships. In the Junior Olympic combined events, the top two finishers in the Regional meet advance automatically to the National Championships. A third finisher may also advance, provided he/she meets the performance standards.
