2001 GMC Envoy USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Some of the world's finest track and field athletes converge this weekend on Hayward Field for the 2001 GMC Envoy USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 21-24 on the campus of the University of Oregon. The Championships serve as the selection event for Team USA at the 2001 IAAF World Outdoor Championships, August 3-12 in Edmonton, Canada. The top three finishers in each event who have met IAAF qualifying standards will make the U.S. squad for Edmonton.
2000 Olympic gold medalists Marion Jones, Stacy Dragila, Angelo Taylor, Jon Drummond, Maurice Greene, Nick Hysong, Jearl Miles-Clark, Bernard Williams, LaTasha Colander-Richardson, Tim Montgomery, Monique Hennagan, Antonio Pettigrew, Calvin Harrison and Jerome Young are among the entrants. The Championships are the fourth event of this year's USATF Outdoor Golden Spike Tour and will be televised from 3-4 p.m. ET June 24 on CBS and from 5-7 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The Golden Spike Tour began on May 12 with the GST Open at Princeton Invitational. The tour continued on June 3 with the adidas Oregon Track Classic in Portland, and was followed by the Peregrine Systems U.S. Open on June 9.
During the GMC Envoy USA Track & Field Championships, a male and female athlete will be named the Xerox Athlete of the Day during each day of competition. On the final day of competition, Sunday, June 24, the overall Xerox Athletes of the Meet (male and female) will win a Xerox WorkCentre M940. The Xerox WorkCentre M940 includes a color flatbed printer, a copier, scanner and a PC fax.
