Born July 25, 1936, Paterson, N. J.
He never won a major title but Dave Sime was still one of the fastest humans of all time, holding several world sprint records.
Sime, who also was an excellent baseball player, became a star in 1956 while attending Duke University. He had some great duels with Bobby Morrow that year but an injury in the national collegiate 200 ruined his Olympic hopes. He came back in 1960, however, and was second in the Olympic 100 meters before anchoring the U.S. to an apparent victory in the 4 x 100-meter relay. The U.S. was disqualified, however, and Sime lost his last chance at an Olympic gold medal. During his career, he held world records at 100 yards, 220, 200 meters and the 220-yard low hurdles. He ran 9.6 for 100 yards at the age of 36. After college, he became an ophthalmologist in Florida.
