TOM MOORE HURDLES-MEET DIRECTOR (Inducted 1988)

Tom Moore's contributions to track and field are seemingly endless.

The 1936 University of California graduate has been involved in the sport as an athlete, official and meet director for nearly 60 years. In college, Moore was one of the world's top hurdlers In 1935, he set a world record for the 120-yard high hurdles and won the AAU 440-hurdles title. He was a solid threat to make the 1936 Olympic Team but contracted pneumonia and missed the 1936 Trials. That was his last chance at the Olympics but Moore competed for 14 more years. When he retired as an athlete, his involvement with the sport continued and he's been the director of the famed Modesto Relays for the last 50 years. During that span, he also has been one of the nation's top starters, working 18 national championships (both AAU & NCAA), USA-USSR dual meets and the 1968 Olympic Trials at South Lake Tahoe. He also has been a staff member of several U.S. international teams.
