DR. DALLAS LONG SHOT PUT (Inducted 1996)

Born June 13, 1940, Pine Bluff, Ark.

Many Hall of Fame athletes have either won Olympic gold medals or set world records. Dr. Dallas Long has done both and was one of the world's premier shot putters in the 1960s.

Long attended North Phoenix High School in Arizona , where he was coached by Vern Wolfe, also a Hall of Famer. Long set a national high school record there and later attended the University of Southern California, where he attained his greatest success and was again coached by Wolfe. He set 11 world records and was on two Olympic teams, taking silver in 1960 and gold in 1964. He represented the U.S. 12 times internationally. He earned both dental and medical degrees from USC and practiced in Southern California and Arizona.
