At age 35 in 2004, Drummond had a disappointing
injury-plagued season that ended with his failing to make it out of the first
round of the Olympic Trials. A veteran U.S. sprinter known for being among the
worlds best starters, Drummond closed out 2002 on a high note, breaking 10
seconds at the Grand Prix Final in Paris (9.97). He now eyes his third Olympic
Team berth, at the age of 35. Born with spina bifida, doctors told his parents
that he would be mentally retarded and not able to walk. Has performed with the
gospel group, Kirk Franklin & The Family...their first album reached No. 1 on
the Billboard gospel chart in 1993...sang backup with Lawrence Johnson, tennis
great John McEnroe and soccer star Alexei Lalas for Bryan Adams at the World
Sports Awards, January 13, 2000 at Royal Albert Hall in London. Drummond wears
only one sock during races, a habit from his college days when he broke a toe
and ran with his foot taped...battled recurrent injuries while at TCU... in
recent years Drummond has emerged as a leader and mentor to younger sprinters
married in November 1997 to Celia, daughter Gabriella and son Destin, who was
born on November 12, 2003...showed promise in 1987, winning U.S. Junior titles
in the 100m and 200mstarted the foundation With Purpose, whose principal
goals are to establish a fund and program to encourage student achievement and
annually award high achieving disadvantaged students, a full four-year
scholarship and stipend to the college or university of their choiceinducted
into the TCU Hall of Fame.
