A successful young sprinter from a football-playing family, Brunson enters his first season of post-collegiate competition. As a prep Brunson set school records in the 100m (10.66), 200m (21.11) and 400m (47.48), and was the 1996 Arizona state champion in the 100 and 200 while earning all-state honors one time in the 400 meters. His father, Michael, played football at Arizona State (lettered from 1968-69) and later for the Atlanta Falconshis uncle, Larry, played football at Colorado and later for the NFL's Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs Brunson played football and ran track at the University of Wyoming from Fall 1996 to Spring 1998. Set Wyoming school records in the 55m (6.10) and indoor 200 meters (21.21)commanded the race from the gun in winning the 2001 World University Games 100m title after a wait of 20 minutes at the blocks, including a long wait to be called into the blocks, three false starts, then another long delay. Brunson said he wasn't bothered by the wait, instead focusing on the result. "This feels very good," he said. "It's my first gold medal in international competition, and to do it on this stage is a tremendous honor"majored in Business while at ASU.
