One of the best horizontal jumpers in the world today, Melvin Lister has won national championships on the high school, junior college, collegiate and elite levels. Enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2000, with three NCAA championships and an Olympic Trials title to his credit...Lister's PR of 27-10.15 was the best long jump by an American in 2000...Lister also jumped 27-3.75 twice in 2000, the second best mark by an American in the long jumpwithdrew from long jump at 2001 IAAF World Indoors with a injured groin following his 1st attempt (5th place - 26-7).

2000: Won Olympic Trials long jump (8.32/27-3.75)...failed to make Olympic final (7.82/25-8)...won NCAA indoor long jump and triple jump...won NCAA outdoor triple jump...ranked #2 LJ and #5 TJ in U.S by T&FN...set PRs during season of 27-10.25 (best by an American in 2000) and 56-7.75.
1999: Won NCAA outdoor long jump and 3rd in the triple jump...ranked #8 in long jump and #5 in triple jump in U.S. by T&FN...bests of 26-10 and 55-10.25.
1998: Placed 2nd in National JUCO long jump but won triple jump...ranked #10 in long jump in U.S. by T&FN...bests of 26-5 (indoors) and 53-8.5 (indoors). 
1997: Won National JUCO long jump...best of 25-9.5.
1996: Won USA Junior long jump...11th at World Junior long jump...won National Scholastic Outdoor triple jump...bests of 25-3.25 and 51-4.25.
