Career Highlights: 1996 Olympian; 11th at 1997 World Champs; 1996 Olympic Trials champion; 1997 U.S. Indoor champion; 2nd at 1991 NCAA Outdoors; 5th at 1998 Goodwill Games.
Started in track in seventh gradeher parents were strict, and didn't allow her much contact with boyswent out for track because the team was co-edhas degree from Texas in English/Liberal Artsplans to start a health care agencystarted a foundation in 1998 with fellow Longhorn alums Carlette Guidry and Tamela Saldana: the Athletic Achievement and Development Academy concentrates on developing the academic, professional, and athletic skills of area athletes from ages 8-18. Workshops and summer camps help build skills and show positive role models. "We've had a lot of support from the community and area businesses," says Rhodescurrently Rhodes, a longtime, die-hard Longhorn fan, is a woman of divided loyalties. Her younger brother Vurnest is a running back for Texas A&M: "I'm torn between supporting Aggie football or staying true to the Longhorns. I tried to get him to run track and I tried to get him to come to Texas, but he's set on making his own path in life."
