Known throughout his career for his prowess in the 400 meters, Willie entered the 2006 season wanting to focus on the 200 meters, and the move has paid huge dividends. Having never ended a season ranked in the top ten in the world, Willie ended the 2006 campaign ranked #7 in the world at 200 meters by Track & Field News. Now a resident of Irvine, Calif., Willie is currently being coached by the highly accomplished John Smith. Willie was named to the Olympic 4x400m relay pool after his 7th place finish at the Olympic Trials, and competed in the first round of competition in Athens...won a gold medal when Team USA finished first in the final. The 4x400m relay pool for the Olympic Games also included fellow collegians Jeremy Wariner and Darold Williamson of Baylor and Andrew Rock of Wisconsin-Lacrosse, all of whom won gold medals … named LSU’s 2004 men’s track athlete of the year as a sophomore … as a freshman, earned three NCAA titles in the 4x400m relay (indoors and out) and 4x100m relay… was a high school prodigy as well, winning two National Scholastic titles in 2003 … 2-time Golden West champion … was named Nike HS Athlete of the Year in 2002… also ran cross country all four years at Sterling HS in Houston.

2004: Olympic 4x400m relay gold medalist after running the lead leg (44.6) in the opening round (2:59.30)...NCAA runner-up (44.85); anchored 8th-place 4x400m relay (3:08.71) 6th at NCAA Indoors (45.94), ran anchor on LSUs 5th-place 4x400m relay (3:04.8) 7th at Olympic Trials (44.97) ranked #6 in U.S. by T&FNbest of 44.63 in quarterfinals at Olympic Trials.
