Career Highlights: 3rd at 2005 and 2006 USA Outdoor Championships

After finishing one spot out of the women's shot put finals at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials, Elizabeth Wanless qualified for the Team USA roster for the 2005 World Outdoor Championships with her third-place finish in June at the USA Outdoor Championships. Wanless posted the second-best throw by an American this year with her best-ever winning toss of 18.58m/60-11.50 May 21 in Clermont. A four-time All-America and two-time NCAA Division III champion in the shot put, Wanless set NCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor Championship records en route to national championship titles in 2004 while at Bates College. Beginning in fall 2004, Wanless began a two-year graduate program in sports science, focusing on human performance, at the University of Florida, where she will compete for a year with the women's Division I track and field team. Wanless has one final year of eligibility remaining since she did not compete during the outdoor track season her first year at Bates. Prior to moving to Gainesville, Wanless was a NESCAC Division Three National Champion and was named the 2004 NCAA Woman of the Year for the State of Maine and Athlete of the Year at Bates Collegeshe currently holds the NCAA Indoor/Outdoor Division III and NCAA National Div. III Championship meet records in the shot put. In winning the 2004 NCAA Div. III national title, Wanless won the event by more than five feet over her nearest competitor.
