Williams returned to form in the Indoor season of 2008, first winning the U.S. Indoor Champs women’s 60m in 7.11 and followed that by winning her first World Indoor crown, winning the 60 in a world-leading 7.06…She struggled with injuries from 2004 through 2007, including shin fractures and a torn hamstring. "I had both shins fractured," Williams recalls, "and I ran on them for two years. I had surgery on one of them after the Olympics. I rushed back in '05 and the leg was too weak. In '06 I was out of shape because of the years with the fractures. I pretty much ran the '03 and '04 season off pool and bike workouts."…Williams qualified for her first U.S. Olympic team in the 4x100m relay following her sixth place finish in the 100 meters at the 2004 Olympic Trials in Sacramento...Williams ran the lead leg on Team USA's 4x100m relay team that did not finish in the final due to an error in the second baton exchange...in 2003 Williams won her first USA Indoor 60m title and grabbed a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships...later that year she ran the lead leg on the World Outdoor 4x100m relay silver medal winning team in Paris and claimed another silver medal in the women's 60m at the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic...Williams won an unprecedented fourth NCAA women's 100m championship in 2002 after racking up many impressive accomplishments in 2001, where she won the 60m silver medal at the World Indoor Championships, was runner-up at USA Indoors and was third in the 100 at USA Outdoors. With her 1999 NCAA winning time of 11.04, Williams set a USC school record, breaking 2000 Olympian Torri Edwards previous mark of 11.10m set in the semifinals of the race...Williams time also broke a 23-year old national junior record (11.08) set by Brenda Morehead of Tennessee State and moved her into ninth place on the all-time collegiate list. Williams says, I was about 9 years old when I realized I was fast. I didn't know how far it would go, or how serious it would get. But I knew I was fast, because adults would say things about it...primarily coached by her club coach, Ernie Gregoire of the Southern California Cheetahs, while in high school...her father, Johnny Williams, was the sprint coach at Chino High, and a close friend of Gregoires...at Chino, Williams ran a blistering 11.11 at the 1998 National Junior Championships, breaking USATF Hall of Famer Chandra Cheeseborough's 22-year old mark of 11.13... also became the first high schooler to break the 11-second barrier under any conditions with a 10.98w as a junior... one of only two women to be unanimously named Track & Field News High School Athlete of the Year twice (1997, 98), the other woman was Marion Jones...carried a 3.9 GPA in high school and was considered on of the states top 100 prep scholars...majored in public policy and management at USC.
