The highlight of Nutter’s 2008 season was his personal best toss of 75.00m/246-1 at West Point on June 5. His 2007 season was his best in two years featuring a fourth place finish at the USA Outdoor Nationals and a best throw of 74.24m/243-7. He enjoyed a stellar 2004 season highlighted by his third-place finish at the Olympic Trials in Sacramento. However, he was unable to meet the Olympic “A” qualifying standard needed to compete in Athens. Despite that disappointment, he threw a monster personal best last year with his throw of 73.53/241-3 on June 26 in Provo, Utah. That effort easily bettered his previous career best by a whopping nine feet…Nutter signed up for track as a freshman at Amador Valley High in California just so a friend on the team could get credit toward his letter. He only meant it to be for one day. But that first day changed his life. “I knew I didn’t want to run so I thought, ‘I’ll try the discus throw.’ Then I had some success in that,” he said. “Actually he had a lot of success. When Nutter tried throwing the hammer in his senior year, he liked that even better.  He was voted most valuable athlete in track and field (as well as in football) in his senior year and went to UC Berkeley on a track and field scholarship, where he had two top-10 hammer finishes at NCAA Outdoor Championships.
