After winning the 2007 NCAA Outdoor crown, Lewis jumped to a runner-up finish
at the USA Outdoor Championships. She didn’t compete at World Outdoors due to
lacking the A standard…The 2006 Hampton University Athlete of the Year, Lewis
was also named the Most Outstanding Female Collegiate Athlete in the state of
Virginia by the Peninsula Sports Club for 2006. She solidified her place among
the top jumpers in the country when she finished third in the triple jump at the
2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. During the indoor season she
led the Lady Pirates to their fourth consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) Championship and was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Performer for the
second straight year after breaking her own conference record with 48 individual
points. She then went on to the NCAA Indoor Championships where she competed in
the 60-meter hurdles and won a national championship in the triple jump with a
mark of 13.75m/45-1.5. During the outdoor season, she won the East Regional
triple jump competition, breaking the meet record in the process and qualifying
for the NCAA Championships in Sacramento where she fought off injury to finish
fourth.
