It only took one season for Aaron Aguayo to go from being one of the nation’s top collegiate steeplechasers to becoming one of the USA’s finest in that event. In addition to lowering his personal best to 8:20.34 in 2007, Aguayo, who placed third in the nation at the 2007 NCAA Championships, clocked am ASU school-record time of 8:27.01 to finish second overall in the 3,000m steeplechase two weeks later at the AT&T USA Outdoor Championships in Indianapolis to earn a World Outdoor Championships berth…holds ASU school record for 5,000 meters (13:49.11)…was injured at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Championships, which caused him to miss that year’s cross country season…placed 22nd at 2004 NCAA XC Championships. A prep standout at Mountain Pointe High School (Phoenix), Aguayo established records in the one and two mile track events...won state championships in track at 1,600m and 3,200m...as a senior, won cross country races at the Doug Conley, Peaks, city, region and state events...captained cross country in 2001 and '02...also track team captain in 2002...three-time all-city and all-state selections (2000-02)...two-time all-region and All-East Valley honoree (2001 and '02). Majoring in mechanical engineering at ASU…hobbies include hunting and fishing.
